Playing for the Generals

The Generals Baseball Club of the Ozarks, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, compete in the M.I.N.K. (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) League, ranked in 2011 by Baseball America as one of the Top 10 collegiate summer leagues in the country. The MINK squad plays at Meador Park in Springfield, the primary home field for the organization since 1996. Select Generals games are webcast/broadcast via the internet through live and archived feeds on CityLinkTV.com and WebSports Radio in addition to broadcast listed on the league site for the other league team. Fans and parents of out of town players can listen to many Generals games from anywhere in the world.

Player applications for 2012/2013 can be either downloaded here (the 2013 application will be available soon) in Adobe PDF Format and mailed in, or by applying online. (Sending in the application does not provide a roster spot, but simply increases consideration.) Cost of Playing for the Generals

Because the Generals operate as a unfunded state and federally registered not-for-profit organization, all players contribute the amount necessary to cover the cost of the season. Player fees for 2013 are $575 for pitchers and $675 for position players. Fees cover field expenses, along with other costs associated with the regular season: games, league dues, insurance, balls, plus most travel expenses. The actual out of pocket cost to players can be greatly reduced by fund raising programs set up by the team. This includes easy to print off and sending out tax-deductible donation letters to family, friends, and businesses. Info on both is available by contacting the team management at: rda160@yahoo.com.

Once a roster spot is offered and accepted, a $100 non-refundable deposit must be returned immediately with the Player Registration Form and NBC Contract (Adobe PDFAdobe PDF). Player fundraising documents are sent out via email immediately after signed contact and deposits are received.

Players are Provided With:

Players Need To Provide:
It is recommended that players provide their own newer solid white and solid grey pants (no pipping and no old practice pants) to ensure correct length and fit. If you do not have any, a pair(s) can be loaned.

Housing, Employment, and Transportation

Housing: Housing for players without friends or family in the Springfield area is provided through area host families or houses/apartments. Host families require a $100 offset for family expenses and arrangements are set up after signing a player code of conduct agreement. Strict rules apply to staying with host families. Apartment/House cost averages $225 per month and still require a code of conduct to be signed by the player.

Employment: Limited jobs are typically available for players looking to make extra money however players are responsible for securing employment.

Transportation: Transportation around southwest Missouri is the responsibility of all players. All players must bring a vehicle and drive themselves to work and local and southern division games. Team transportation for long roadtrips in the form of a team owned shuttle bus is available for position player and pitchers who aren't throwing.

Wood Bats

Position players are expected to provide their own wood bat. Players may use ash, maple, or composite bats, but no metal bats will be allowed at any point -- no exceptions.
